| Turn off a quiet road in the Welsh Marches to enter another world. The drive up through parkland, passing nibbling sheep, huge trees and stunning lakes, is long. Then, tucked behind the listed Regency hall, is the lovely old coach house... a peaceful retreat. Step straight into a big sunny kitchen, charmingly unspoilt, with high beams, Belfast sink, wooden draining board and checked tablecloths. It’s a friendly room in which to chat while the children play games at the window-side table and you cook dinner on the Rayburn. Stone steps lead to a huge beamed sitting room with an oil-burning stove and marvellous views. Bedrooms are comfortable, cosy, traditional, the double with an antique brass bed, white linen and pretty Welsh blanket; bathrooms are simple with roll top baths one with a shower . You can walk in the stunning garden and on the paths through the parkland, play tennis, barbecue on the patio, listen to a multitude of birds. Ben will welcome you – he lives on the estate and is on hand for advice. Walks from the door are fantastic; Oswestry, Offa’s Dyke and National Trust gems are close. Escape here – you’ll love it. |
