Lake Vyrnwy lies just to the south of Snowdonia. It is a man-made water reservoir with a perimeter road 11.75 miles long. Located a short drive from the Shropshire border it is a day-out from areas such as Birmingham and Liverpool. If you should stay here it is a perfect base for exploring Snowdonia and the coast from Harlech to Aberystwyth.
FISHING
Game Fishing is available on the lake through the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel who own the fishing and shooting rights. Boats are available for hire and details call 01691 870692 or visit the website www.lakevyrnwy.com . See our fishing tariff.
Also, the Valley Dam Lake offers fly fishing and is a short distance from Lake Vyrnwy near the village of Llanfihangel. Call 01691 648837 or visit the website www.valleydam.co.uk
Fly fishing on the Vyrnwy Reservoir
Lake Vyrnwy Hotel & Spa has the exclusive fishing rights over the 1,100 acres of the Vyrnwy reservoir. Fly fishing at Lake Vyrnwy started in 1818 after the lake was flooded and stocked with 40,000 Loch Leven brown trout. This reservoir is the world’s second oldest manmade trout fishery. The hotel holds a collection of stuffed trout, together with all the fishing registers since the lake opened, making this one of the most important collections of piscatorial ephemera in private hands. Today fishing is for wild brown and stocked brown and rainbow trout, ensuring good sport throughout the season. There are 10 boats on the lake, quietly powered by electric engines.

HORSERIDING
There is carriage riding available at the lake and stabling available at both The Lake Vyrnwy Hotel and Cyfie Farm www.cyfiefarm.co.uk . The Dyfnant Forest above the lake has some 64Kms of bridle ways for free use by the public.

We operate a fully automated 8 range layout which is suitable for beginners and experienced shots (Min age of 14 applies) 
Introduction clays
£40.00 per person, per session based on 30 clays. (Gun, cartridges and instruction inclusive of charge)
Experienced clays
£25.00 per hundred. Cartridges from £5.00 per box 25. (Quantity shot is entirely up to the individual)

Lake Vyrnwy Hotel & Spa own the shooting rights over the 24,000 acre Vyrnwy Estate.

Experience the unique beauty of the rolling hills and just enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the Welsh countryside. When you return after your ride or walk, come and have a coffee and a snack at Artisans, where the coffee is good and the cake is great!

You can hire our bikes by the hour or for a more adventurous experience, why not hire a bike for a whole day?
Our rates are:
£ 4.00 per hour per bike with a £ 20.00 cash deposit against any damages
£30.00 per bike per day with a £ 80.00 cash deposit held against any damages..
We also provide single or double toddler's buggy (from 1 to 5 years-old) or a tag-along for an additional £ 2.00 per hour
We do recommend booking the bikes with us on Bank Holidays or week-ends, to insure they are available to you.
