Fly fishing on the Vyrnwy Reservoir Lake Vyrnwy Hotel & Spa has the exclusive fishing rights over the 1,100 acres of the Vyrnwy reservoir. Fly fishing at Lake Vyrnwy started in 1818 after the lake was flooded and stocked with 40,000 Loch Leven brown trout. This reservoir is the world’s second oldest manmade trout fishery. The hotel holds a collection of stuffed trout, together with all the fishing registers since the lake opened, making this one of the most important collections of piscatorial ephemera in private hands. Today fishing is for wild brown and stocked brown and rainbow trout, ensuring good sport throughout the season. There are 10 boats on the lake, quietly powered by electric engines. Situated on the roadside of the A458 (between Welshpool and Mallwyd) with easy access, convenient parking to a reception area of office for sales, tackle and bait, a kitchen for food and drinks, toilet and shower, right by the lakes. All facilities disability friendly. Guide dogs allowed. Other dogs can be kennelled by booking arrangements. Forgotten your rod or never fished before and fancy a taster or some coaching? No problem, we hire out all the gear. There is a choice of two landscaped pools, stocked with Carp, Tench, Roach, Rudd, Bream and Chubb. Enjoy a relaxing day’s fishing or join in on some of our programmed events. Extend your fishing experience by camping on our site either with nature in our semi-natural woodland with facilities for a camp fire, BBQ’s and picnic areas or on a flat enclosed area by the lakes with parking proximity. Or if you don’t fancy fishing why not have a go at some remote control boating or even kayaking on our new lakes which are open to proficient users. Equipment hire and or tuition for novices can be arranged with advanced booking.

We welcome groups by prior arrangement for House and Garden Tours. Bryngwyn Hall and Gardens listed grade II*, covers over nine acres, surrounded by sixty acres of oak studded parkland. The garden is undergoing an extensive restoration programme the lakes. New yew hedges for structure, large herbaceous borders and extensive new planting give an all year appeal with a variety of scents, colours and academic interest.
Bryngwyn Courses and Workshops Art Course; Week Commencing the 22nd April 2013 The course will combine four days of painting and drawing in the beautiful landscape of the Welsh Marches with evenings spent enjoying the comfort and gourmet food of Bryngwyn Hall. We will paint in the park at Bryngwyn also in the hills and valleys surrounding the estate. The course will be led by Sam Shaw who trained at the City & Guilds of London Art School graduating in 1990 with a First Class Honours Degree. The same year she won the prestigious Richard Ford Award for painting at the Royal Academy. Private collectors include HRH The Prince of Wales, Trevor Nunn and A.S. Byatt. On this one-day course you’ll uncover a secret world of unique edible possibilities, and discover… ● How to identify wild edible plants ● Learn to cook, prepare and preserve these plants ● Be immersed in their mystery, history and folklore ● As well as how to forage sustainably, safety guidelines, and the law ● Wild Dining Room: After the forage you will return to Bryngwyn Hall to enjoy a sumptuous four course gourmet wild food luncheon prepared and cooked by the estates acclaimed head chef.
The course is led by Robin Harford. Robin is a professional forager who harvests wild edible plants on a daily basis for his family. He is creator of the UK’s leading wild food site eatweeds.co.uk, author of a wild food recipe book, has taught at Eden Project, been featured on BBC2′s Edwardian Farm, in the BBC Good Food magazine, Guardian, GQ, etc. He also consults for celebrity chefs & TV

Great riding fun – breathtaking surroundings
Dyfnant Forest is home to the Dyfnant Rainbow Trails, designed with horses in mind but also welcoming walkers and leisure cyclists. The Rainbow Trails are a series or trails of varying distances throughout the forest and over to outstanding views of Lake Vyrnwy all mapped out in our brochure which is available from the building in the main car park at Penn y ffordd on the B4395 or from Hendre Car Park There are 5 waymarked trails starting from the Penyffordd Car Park. The trails through rolling hills and lush green valleys range from the easiest which is the 5 mile Banwy Trot or, for the more experienced, two 16 milers for a full day's ride. . There are picnic areas, corals for the horses and shelter at both parks. Enjoy the beauty of the forest on your own or at one of our events throughout the year starting on Good Friday with a get together through to the Mince Pie and Mulled Wine event in December. The Old Barn Cafe is a 2 minutes ‘walk from the Vyrnwy Dam and provide a cycle hire facility. One of the best ways to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Vyrnwy is to cycle around it. The ride around the lake is very flat, which makes it suitable for all fitness abilities and all ages. It is believed to be a 12 miles ride. It would take you between 1 hour to 2 hours to complete the ride, there are as well a few possible sightseeing spots or stops along the route ( the waterfall, bird hides, picnic areas, etc). Set in over 100 acres of woodland on the edge of the beautiful village of Llangynog, Revolution Bike Park is a new downhill mountain biking centre which opened in 2011. With a 300m high hill the park offers tracks that will offer a challenge to downhill riders whether novices or professionals. The park offers uplifts on weekend days for up to 30 people and is also available during the week for private parties of up to 10. Based on the outskirts of Llanfyllin. Y Dolydd is one of the few remaining Victorian Workhouses. A community project works to preserve this historic building and bring it back to life. There are presently 12 units rented to individuals working in arts and crafts. A Venue where live events are held to raise funds and a gallery set up for exhibitions from local artists. There are many events throughout the year which are aimed at raising funds to restore the building and make necessary improvements to the grounds.
